About

“I wasn’t born yesterday you know” is a phrase used by many of us born in the years before the internet was around. With that in mind, people can usually make a fairly decent estimate about the mental sanity and age of the two crazy people who met over a really bad cup of coffee some 10 years ago, to talk about ‘the want to do something different’. Sheesh, is there really anyone around who doesn’t want to do something different?

Salaina and I started talking about ‘something’ that eventually turned into Netxpress, as far back as 1997. December 31st 1999, when the rest of the world was worrying about planes falling out of the sky, my one worry was how the heck to right align the layout on a really outdated version of Adobe PageMaker. The Millennium happened (though most of us concur that it actually happened a year later but who am I to argue?) and January 15th 2000, we found ourselves sitting amidst 10,023 copies of the first printed issue of Netxpress. (So yes, linking it back to the first sentence – Netxpress wasn’t born yesterday).

I wish I could be bold and say that we launched Netxpress and never looked back, but I can think of many times when the both of us found ourselves pondering over why the heck two young women would want to create so much pain to keep doing what we were doing. But 8 years later, we can tell you a lot of stories; a lot of make-and-break milestones; tell you bout a lot of people that came, talked really big and ran into the ground; we can also tell you about some really great ideas and wonderful people - the list can go on for quite a while.

We’ve always made it a point to support the industry, its people, its ideas and its standing in the world, and people have been kind to us. After all, for a small private company to still be standing 10 years after its inception, we must have done a few things right.

You’ll find all sorts of content on Netxpress. And moreso, you’ll find Netxpress in the middle of all kinds of content. We try and keep it tangible and real. We’ve been creating news and ensuring that we play our role in getting the word out, that there is some real good stuff ongoing in Pakistan. So anything to do with Technology and Pakistan, and you’ll probably find some part of us sewn into the fabric of the content. If you’re going to promote technology, which is so widespread and affects every vertical, horizontal and diagonal of society, you have to be able to give up a big part of you to make the impact count.

There are so many stories to tell and more accomplishments to write about us, but I find that we have a lot more important stuff to share with you. Now that we FINALLY have an “About Us” section on our portal, we’ll post a few things as we come across them in our own archives, but in the meanwhile, feel free to browse through the pages of this portal. If you’re looking for places to download music from or the most exciting product launch in the world, we can assure you, you won’t find it here. If something is already big, it’s already being covered by the 100,000 different blogs and news sites – we’re bound to get lost in the noise.

So you ask, what is it that we do then? We’re devoting our resources to promoting, projecting and promulgating technology trade content that has a Pakistani link attached to it. (Yes, I know those three words mean pretty much the same thing – I’m just trying to emphasize, highlight and address a point!)

As always, if we can lend a supporting post or page to your venture or idea, feel free to drop us a line.
